UK PokerThe online gambling market in Europe has slowed down over the last couple of years and online gambling establishments have found it difficult to capture market share and expand their operations. The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) tightened regulations on its online gambling market towards the end of 2014 and increased its tax rates on online gambling revenue making it difficult for small enterprises to continue operations in the United Kingdom.

Yet this move has proven beneficial to PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker as they are all set to launch operations in the United Kingdom and dominate the market.

PokerStars is the biggest online poker website in the world and Full Tilt Poker is one of the most popular online poker websites. Both websites are owned by Canadian based Amaya Gaming and have been operating in the UK with a temporary license.

Both companies had earlier applied for a full license to operate in the UK and went through a rigorous inspection process. The UKGC recently announced that all documentation, reports and policies were thoroughly reviewed and approved. The UKGC has now awarded PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker a full license to operate in the United Kingdom and are now eligible to start offering their games to the UK market.

Eric Hollreiser, the Head of Corporate Communications at Amaya Gaming was happy to receive a full license in the UK. In a statement, Hollreiser stated that Amaya Gaming was

Very pleased to receive operating licenses in the UK, which is a large and growing market. We continue to build upon PokerStars’ leadership in poker in the UK and intend to leverage our scale and expertise to become market leaders in casino and sports betting

A few years ago, PokerStars ran into a few problems in the United States and concerns were raised about the company’s reputation. As a result, PokerStars is still having a hard time breaking into the U.S. market and its application for a license to enter the New Jersey market is yet to get approved.

However, the UKGC had no such concerns in approving a license for PokerStars as the company’s financial records, corporate structure, gaming regulations and player policies were all examined and found to be in order. Amaya Gaming will now leverage its platform via PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to expand its casino and sports betting offerings and capture a large percentage of the UK gambling market.
