New JerseyThe online poker scene in the United States is pretty complicated with some states legalizing online poker and other’s tightening up their legislation laws to ensure online poker is illegal. New Jersey has made a clear stance in favour of internet gambling and online poker and since Feb 2013 has encouraged online poker firms to launch operations within the state.

Now, a leading online gambling company that holds a popular national play in person poker tournament recently confirmed that it will be its championship to Atlantic City to create an exciting tournament that brings online gambling to a brick and mortar casino.

New Jersey is encouraging online gambling companies to setup and expand operations within the state as the income generated from taxes will provide a huge stream of revenue for the state. The season ending championship of the World Poker Tour will take place at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in April. bwin.party is the tour’s parent company and also the firm the Borgata is collaborating with to provide internet gambling once it starts which could be in November.

The collaboration between online poker companies and brick and mortar casinos is an interesting partnership and the market potential for such a business model looks extremely positive. World Poker Tour president, Adam Pliska stated that the market for poker is constantly changing and New Jersey’s online market has a lot of potential for future growth.

During the last 3 years, bwin.party has focused on preparing its online software for a launch in the United States. The company is currently working on setting up its server room at the Borgata and has over 200 of its software engineers working on the Atlantic City project.

There are a number of brick and mortar casinos in New Jersey who are partnering with online gambling firms to launch online gambling within their casinos. The four casinos owned by Caesars Entertainment, Caesars Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resorts Atlantic City, Showboat Casino Hotel and Bally’s Atlantic City have teamed up with 888 Holdings; the Tropicana Casino and Resort has partnered with Gamesys Limited who are running the jackpotjoy.com website.

The Resorts Casino Hotel has teamed up with PokerStars, which is the largest poker website in the world. PokerStars recently made an attempt to purchase the Atlantic Club in 2013 but the deal fell apart. The Golden Nugget Atlantic City is also offering its in house brand of internet gambling by teaming up with Bally Technologies.

This collaboration between brick & mortar casinos and online gambling firms will further enhance and strengthen the poker market within the state of New Jersey.
