PokerStars recently confirmed that it has plans to invest $10m and construct a live poker room at the Resorts Casino in Atlantic City. PokerStars is a global online gambling company and has formed an internet partnership with the Resorts Casino in an effort to bring online poker to brick & mortar casinos and build a wider base of customers.
PokerStars wants to proceed with the construction immediately but has to wait till it is awarded a New Jersey license for Internet gambling. The spokesman for Resorts Casino William J. Pascrell III said
As soon as the license is in hand, they’re ready to start building. It will be the PokerStars poker room at Resorts. PokerStars is committed to investing significant resources to put in a brand new poker room at Resorts Casino Hotel.
In addition to the poker room, they are committed to driving traffic to Atlantic City through their marketing.
This will be a huge boost for the Resorts Casino who have not held a live poker event since 2010. The partnership is designed to bring in a huge fan base of online poker enthusiasts who can sit at the live poker room in the Resorts Casino and play online poker.
This move from PokerStars will also benefit Atlantic City as hundreds of new jobs will be created by this venture. As soon as PokerStars gets its license it plans on hiring 50 employees immediately to set up and install the technology that is required to launch internet gambling in Atlantic City. After which, PokerStars will continue to hire workers who will look to provide a wide range of services to customers in the new live poker room.
In a statement, Resorts’ owner Morris Bailey said
The gains at Resorts casino are significant for Atlantic City as a whole. We’re bringing the fun back to Atlantic City and focusing on the natural amenities that historically have given us a unique identity — the beautiful beach itself and the legendary Boardwalk here at Resorts casino.
PokerStars also had plans to establish its U.S headquarters in Atlantic City for its internet gambling operations. The headquarters should be established during the early part of 2014 and this will create an additional 150 jobs during the second quarter of 2014. PokerStars may not have to wait long for its license as the state of New Jersey is scheduled to start internet gambling on the 26th of November 2013.
