Global Poker Index - American Poker AwardsThe GPI American Poker Awards which is sponsored by PokerStars has been confirmed for the 27th of Feb and will be held at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and will showcase a lot of celebrities and poker veterans. The event will be hosted by experienced journalist and poker media consultant Kara Scott.

The first edition of the PokerStars-sponsored GPI American Poker Awards is set to hit the stage on Feb. 27, 2015, at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, with a glam ceremony hosted by veteran journalist and poker media personality Kara Scott.

The Global Poker Index (GPI) recently released a list of nominees for the 2014 GPI American Poker Awards which will look to reward and recognize the top players in the North American poker market. All of the top professional poker players in North American are expected to be present. Alexandre Dreyfus, the CEO of the GPI expects the awards to be a huge success and plans to make it a yearly occurrence in California.

In a statement, Dreyfus said

I’m truly excited about the upcoming ceremony. For once, this type of event won’t be held inside a casino, or even in Las Vegas, but will instead take place at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. This is the beginning of a yearly tradition, celebrating the best in poker in Canada and in the USA. Our event is already endorsed by the poker community at large, including poker players all over the world.

The 2015 GPI American Poker Awards will feature 10 different categories and a list of 30 nominees. Some of the categories include Event of the year (Category buy-in over $2000); Event of the year (Category buy-in up to $2000); breakout player of the year; industry person of the year and tournament performance of the year.

The nominees for the event of the year include WSOP Millionaire Maker (Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas), WSOP Monster Stack (Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas); WPT500 at ARIA (ARIA Resort & Casino, Las Vegas) and HPT Cal State Poker Championship (Commerce Casino, Los Angeles).

Nominees for tournament performance of the year include Moshin Charania, WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic winner; Mark Newhouse, WSOP Main Event 9th place finisher; Daniel Colman, Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Main Event winner and Darren Elias, WPT Borgata Poker Open winner.

The GPI will release at a later date a list of names that will comprise the jury who will decide on the eventual winners on the morning of the 27th of Feb 2015.
