online pokerThe online poker market might be sluggish in the United States but it is growing rapidly in other parts of the world. Europe and Asia have reported a high interest in online poker and their customer base is growing exponentially. Experts have estimated that by the year 2014, more than 30% of users will be using their portable, handheld and mobile devices to play online poker.

One of the reasons for this surge in mobile poker is because the number of handheld devices has increased along with the quality of these devices. Apple and Samsung have released high end mobile phones as well as tablets that allow users from across the world to easily access online poker games and have a quality gaming experience.

A number of online poker companies will need to upgrade their technologies and focus on improving their mobile online poker applications, if they are to keep up future market demands.

Online poker is going portable, with an industry expert suggesting mobile devices will account for 30 per cent of play by the end of 2014, a near eight-fold increase on current levels.

Jeffrey Haas, who is the head of poker at PartyPoker recently made a statement at the World Poker Tour National series event in London. Haas said

Today we have 4 per cent of our user base [on mobile], but I see it growing. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 25 to 30 per cent of all players by the end of 2014, if not more.

Haas is serious about the impact that mobile poker players will make on the overall market share. Keeping with his beliefs, PartyPoker released an enhanced iOS application in October. This improved app caters specifically for iPad and iPhone users. Party Poker also had another dedicated android app along with a HTML 5 application that can be used on a number of other mobile platforms.

Zynga Poker, which is an innovative ‘play money’ poker app from the Facebook game experts is currently one of the top grossing apps on the Apple App Store. Zynga has realized the potential of the mobile app market and has plans to launch real money games in the near future.

A number of online gambling companies have made plans to revamp their exiting online poker apps and some are also in the process of creating and launching new apps. The companies that will make an impact in the mobile poker industry will be those that launch early, give players a great experience and build long term customer loyalty.
