DelawareDelaware is joining the likes of New Jersey and Nevada in launching real-money online games on Halloween.

However, unlike New Jersey and Nevada, there has not been a lot of media coverage around the launch of Delaware’s online poker.

Considering the fact that Delaware has a population lesser than a million and only limited gambling facilities, one can understand why there has not been a big build up to the online poker launch.

Delaware Lottery Director Vernon Kirk is looking to generate some buzz so that residents of Delaware can be aware of the launch of real money online games which they can start playing from the comfort of their home.

One of these games will be online poker. Speaking about the different types of online poker games going to be available in Delaware, Kirk said

Some , some video poker, some slot machines. We are kind of restricted right now because of the integration piece to our service provider, which is 888 Holdings. So we are restricted to those games for launch. They are working with other game content providers for integration, but it will still be awhile

So it may take a few more months before the state is able to license gaming companies to launch a wider variety of real money online poker games. Yet, there are a number of free online games that have already been launched in Delaware and players can play them right away. The idea behind launching free games was to allow casinos to attract players and build a database. The free games have proven to be a hit in Delaware and Casino’s have been happy with the results so far.

When real money online poker launches full scale in Delaware, one of the first things that gaming companies will be targeting is to see if they can expand the player database in Delaware. To do this, the state will have to permit inter-state gaming, which will allow Delaware to team up with New Jersey and Nevada.

In a statement, Kirk said

We have had conversations with both states, and it’s a little bit too early in the process to project how that is going to work out. My guess is that, certainly with Nevada, they are definitely anxious to compact with us, and us to them likewise. Once we get up and running we will be pursuing that more aggressively. Right now we are just concentrating on getting our site up. But that will be one of the very first steps we take after launch
