Mid States Poker TourWhen the main event at a live poker tournament has more than a $100k in prize money, it immediately receives attention from poker players on the circuit. This week, the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) will make a stop at the Meskwaki Casino in Tama, Iowa and will feature a $300k guaranteed main event.

The tournament at the Meskwaki Casino has proven to be extremely popular with poker players in the U.S, especially the younger crowd as players only need to be over 18 years to take part in the tournament.

The main event has a $1,100 buy-in and is expected to draw a number of poker pros including Ralph Massey, Blair Hinkle, Jeff Fielder and Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler. The MSPT makes three stops every year at the Meskwaki Casino.

The last stop occurred in July when Jonathan Olson beat 368 players to win the main event and prize money of $95,741. This time the main event is guaranteed to be over $300k and will attract a higher number of players. Meskwaki Casino’s poker room manager Joe Fernandez has handled MSPT events before but the latest event will be a much bigger test for him and his team.

Fernandez stated that the Casino had been actively promoting the MSPT event for the last two months and expects a huge turnout. The casino put together a specialized “information-and-branding” campaign targeting social media, print and broadcast media. The casino has been aggressively promoting via Facebook, Twitter, digital signage on the highway, newspaper ads and billboards. The response has been encouraging and Fernandez is prepared to handle a bigger crowd than even.

Fernandez stated that both the Casino and players were excited about the MSPT event. In a statement, Fernandez said

We are always inspired by the business “rewards” and prestige (“bragging rights”) for hosting tri-annually this 300K guaranteed MSPT, which is the biggest guaranteed prize pool in the Midwest. There’s always some excitement in our card room not only for the MSPT satellites/qualifiers and main event but also for our MBCH in-house tournaments

Players who come in especially for the MSPT stop will also be able to take part at other events such as the bingo special on Nov. 8 where $15 buy-in wins $1,199 and the slot promotion called “Christmas Comes Early”.
