The United Kingdom made a number of changes to its online gambling legislature this year which included raising the percentage of taxes. A number of online gambling providers like Mansion Poker decided to wind up operations in the UK, while some decided to protest and see if the law could be amended.
The gambling regulator in the UK has decided to roll out the proposed changes and has implemented a new point of consumption as part of these changes. Just as these new laws were implemented, TonyBet received a UK license to launch online poker and sports betting.
The company had applied for a gambling license before the new laws were proposed but are still thrilled that the license was approved.
While some online gambling providers contemplate on the continuation of their UK operations, TonyBet were happy to launch new operations and are confident that they can run a profitable operation in the UK. TonyBet was established in 2009 by Tony G, who is a representative of Lithuania’s Liberal party and also a member of the European Parliament.
Since its inception, TonyBet has worked tirelessly to establish itself in the poker industry as a reputable and highly ethical gambling provider. The UK regulator has carefully analyzed the company’s reputation, services and customer base before awarding it a UK license. The license will allow TonyBet to provide sports betting via its TonyBet Sportsbook and open-face Chinese (OFC) poker games through its TonyBet online poker room.
TonyBet is all set to launch its first live event in Prague, the Czech Republic on the 8th December. TonyBet will host the first ever OFC Poker World Championship and the event will be attended by some of the top poker professionals in the world.
In a statement, Tony G said
The championship will celebrate the incredible year that we had at TonyBet Poker, and we will make sure there’s plenty of action for our players. Being the biggest global OFC poker site, we decided to seize an opportunity and give some live action for the players. And with the entire poker community coming to Prague in December, there’s just no better time and place to hold it. We are set to run the biggest live OFC event in history.
TonyBet has not yet confirmed when it will launch its UK operations but it will most likely be during early 2015.
