World Poker TourThe schedule for Season XV of the World Poker Tour (WPT) has been released, outlining slightly modified main tour schedule from last year. Season XV which has already started features 20 Main Tour events and also features the Tournament of Champions which is scheduled towards the end of the season.

The 2015 WPT had 21 main festivals offering and $50 million in guaranteed winnings but 2016 will feature just 20. The WPT has dropped two tours from last year which are WPT Vienna and WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic and instead added one new stop which is the WPT Caribbean.

The new tour stop will be held in the Dominican Republic at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana in November.

Speaking on the announcement to partner with Hard Rock for WPT Caribbean, Angelica Hael, the VP of Global Tour Management for the WPT said that the Hard Rock was one of the most recognized global brands known for its world-class experience. She added that WPT was proud to partner with the casino and partypoker which is the main sponsor for the event. The poker website is sponsoring 3 other events this year.

A new mode for qualifying for its WPT tour events has also been introduced. The WPT Passport has been introduced where players can try to qualify online. partypoker has partnered with the WPT to introduce the WPT Passport, a new system which will provide flexibility to players who are interested in participating in the main tours through online qualifiers. partypoker will be hosting WPT Passport super satellites via its poker room on a daily basis which will allow winners to participate in the $530 WPT Passport satellite.

This event will have a package worth $5,000 guaranteed, including a ticket to the main event, for those who win. Winners will be given 12 months to choose which WPT Main Tour event they want to participate.

Some of the popular main tour stops in this season’s WPT include the partypoker WPT UK which takes place at the Dusk Till Dawn casino, the Five Diamond at the Bellagio and the partypoker.net WPT Montreal at Playground Poker Club.
