betonline pokerDetails have been brought forth about the launch of the Global Online Poker Series (GOPS), which will be run by BetOnline. The inaugural series will begin on Sunday, March 11 and run through to Sunday, March 18. During this time period, there will be 17 different feature events. A variety of tournament formats will feature in the series and there is a guarantee of $482,000 in winnings.

Online poker tournaments with huge winnings aren’t something that BetOnline is usually associated with. While it does feature a promotion known as the ‘Weekly Cash Race’, as well as the ‘Bad Beat Jackpot’, it’s not especially considered to have valuable tournaments on offer. The site’s largest guaranteed prize is the monthly tournament, which provides a pool of $100,000 guaranteed. However, with the introduction of the GOPS, everything is changing for the BetOnline site. This marks a big shift for the platform. Plus, the tournament is also supported by a satellite schedule consisting of All-In Sit & Go rounds, as well as a Steps program.

The Upcoming Schedule

Oddly enough, despite the GOPS being an inaugural event for BetOnline, the company has chosen to see it coincide with part of the OSS Cub3d series, run by the Winning Poker Network. Of course, with such a schedule, overlays between the two tournaments are a strong possibility. The start of the BetOnline tournament is at 4:00pm ET on 11 March, and it has a buy-in of $215. Players have the chance of up to 99 re-entries on both this and the following day’s event.

Everything will draw to a close on 18 March, with events occurring at 2:00pm (The Warm Up Event), 4:00pm (The Main Event) and 7:00pm (The Last Chance Event).

A large proportion of the GOPS events also have what can be called “traditional” MTT-style satellites, which feed into them. However, BetOnline Poker is also supporting the series by offering the All-In Sit & Go qualifying rounds. The previously spoken of Steps program will be available for all of the Opening, Warm Up and Main Events too.

As far as the qualifying rounds go, these are quite a new concept that online tournaments utilise. You’ll be able to find them as part of the “Satellites” tab in the Sit & Go lobby area. Each of the games there targets itself at one of the specific events in the GOPS. This means that you shouldn’t enter one of the rounds with a $55 ticket as its prize, believing that you will then have the means to enter any of the GOPS events with the same buy-in amount.

Even though the Main Event of the GOPS tournament is a few short weeks away, there isn’t a huge amount of play in the Sit & Go games for qualifying. Therefore, it’s quite pivotal for potential participants to involve themselves now. Many of the MTT satellites are guaranteeing select numbers of fixed seats for the Main Event, but they’re not having much uptake for now. This being the case, visiting BetOnline and participating in such now gives you a stronger chance of being at the Main Event than if you leave it for a longer time period.
