The month of May looks to be a great one for online poker players as two of the world’s largest poker rooms have announced their prize guarantees. Both PokerStars and PartyPoker look to provide guarantees of over $100 million to their players. The Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) from PokerStars and the second POWERFEST from PokerStars look to provide $65 million and $40 million in prize money, respectively.
So, let’s start out with the PokerStars SCOOP. One of the largest online poker rooms operating within the world, PokerStars has chosen to celebrate the decade-long run of this tournament by offering its record-breaking $65 million in guaranteed prizes. That stands at a total of $10 million more than last year’s SCOOP event. There will be a total of 61 events taking place between May 6 and 21, dividing themselves into Low, Medium and High tiers, bringing forth a total of 183 different games. These all come with buy-ins between £2.20 and up to $25,000. Three leader boards will also exist for the High, Medium and Low groups, as well as a daily $1 million guaranteed event.
The main difference with the SCOOP tournament this year is that it will introduce the Platinum Pass as a winning prize. This $30,000 reward will be given to five different players. One for each of the leader board winners, another for the overall SCOOP leader board winner and a final one for the winner of something known as the All-In Shootout challenge. The 2017 SCOOP broke records itself, sharing 57 events and overwhelming the $55 million guarantee.
PartyPoker Makes Waves with POWERFEST
PokerStars may be celebrating a decade of SCOOP, but PartyPoker is bringing its POWERFEST schedule back too. According to Patrick Leonard – an ambassador for PartyPoker – this year’s event will be the most varied, exciting and fun POWERFEST to have ever taken place.
This one is actually the second of its kind in 2018, bringing forth the $40 million in prize guarantees. This will spread itself over a total of 366 games and it will include a total of 17 Championship events too. Each of these carries its own $1 million guarantee. The POWERFEST schedule takes place between 6 and 20 May. During the tournament, Leonard says that there will be extra Six-Max, PLO and High Roller games.
More details will become available on this tournament in the next couple of weeks during April, so keep the dates of this one marked in your diaries. Of course, it’s already big enough that there are guarantees of $40 million with the tournament. With the fact that over $100 million is on offer from both of these poker rooms, players will be able to enjoy the month of May for certain!
