RonaldoBrazil’s Ronaldo was one of the biggest football stars between 1994 and 2004. Ronaldo was instrumental in helping Brazil win a world cup championship. Nicknamed “the phenomenon” his performance on the field earned him 2 Ballon d’Or awards and 3 FIFA World Player of the year awards.

The football great retired in 2011 as he was suffering from a number of health related issues including hypothyroidism. Since his retirement, Ronaldo has spent a lot of time on the poker circuit and featured in a number of celebrity charity matches, including going head to head with tennis superstar Rafael Nadal in 2014.

Nadal defeated Ronaldo on both occasions and Ronaldo vowed to take his poker more serious and show the world that he could get better.

He started 2015 by flying to the Bahamas to take part in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA). Ronaldo demonstrated a lot of composure, great strategy and a poker face as he competed in the PCA which started with a total of 816 players.

Ronlado played well consistently and managed to make it into the final 30, giving him his best tournament run till date. In the end Ronaldo finished in 26th place and won $42,000 in prize money giving him the honor of being the first sports superstar who has done so well in the 10 year PCA history. Ronaldo was also spotted at the Atlantis Bahamas dribbling a football and showing of his skills to his legion of fans. The video has made its rounds on the internet.

Commenting on his performance at the PCA, Ronaldo said

I’m really excited, it’s the same emotion I used to have at the soccer fields playing at the highest level. The experience has been great, my first goal was to get a prize in a big tournament and I achieved that.

Ronaldo is also contracted with team PokerStars since 2013 and represents the brand along with other famous faces such as Rafael Nada, Fatima Moreira de Melo and Boris Becker. His performance at the PCA received a lot of coverage on social media and Ronaldo’s twitter account was flooded with congratulatory tweets from a number of famous personalities.

This win has greatly encouraged the football legend and he will look to use this momentum throughout 2015. Ronaldo and Nadal have a competitive rivalry going with their charity poker face-offs and Ronaldo is looking forward to taking on Nadal once more in 2015.
