Jon “Skalie” Kalmar and Toby Lewis are starting to garner attention for themselves in the poker world. Both hail from England and have quickly amassed hundreds of thousands of dollars in winnings from high visibility tournaments.

Jon “Skalie” Kalmar

Jon KalmarJon “Skalie” Kalmar is a frequent poker player from clubs in the north and midland of England. He used to be a punk rocker until he gained some fame for himself at the 2007 World Series of Poker event.

It was rumoured that he was seen as one of the biggest competitors in the event and regardless of whether the rumour was true or not, the impact of his play is still being felt today. Despite closing at the 5th place in the World Series Poker event and cashing in for a $1.256 million score, it was enough to fuel his desire to earn a living off
poker alone.

An excerpt taken from his latest entry in his online diary has him describing that he loves poker and that it’s in his blood. He writes confidently on how gambling has always been in his family, from the time of his great grandfather, to his grandfather, his father, and finally to him.

Toby Lewis

Toby LewisToby Lewis is very well known in the poker world. Hailing from Hampshire, England, Toby created a name for himself by scoring a win at the prestigious EPT London side event.

His winnings from the event totalled up to €467,836 when he beat two other highly regarded players, Sam Trickett and Teddy Sheringham. The major victory not only garnered fame and attention for Toby, it also won him the “Rookie of the Year” award at the Europena Power Awards even in 2011.

The Southern Daily Echo just recently ran a story on Toby Lewis on how he has become one of Poker’s newest millionaires. His success in the recent World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic event for which he gained a 6th place finish, has allowed him to supersede Roberto Romanello, to become the new number 1 in UK rankings on GPI.

The story covers Toby’s success by noting that his recent millionaire status has him jetting off to some of the world’s must fabulous destinations for major poker tournaments. Toby mentions that it is strict discipline and hard work that has contributed to his success.
