Daniel NegreanuPeople for the ethical treatment of animals (PETA) claim to be the biggest animal rights group in the world and have a slogan which says “animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.” The organization has collaborated with a number of international celebrities such as Pamela Anderson, Paul McCartney, Joaquin Phoenix, Woody Harrelson, Peter Dinklage and Richard Linklater to build its brand and stop animal cruelty.

PETA recently collaborated with Canadian poker player and poker hall of fame member Daniel Negreanu to promote a new advertisement campaign to promote veganism and stop the slaughter of animals. Negreanu is a six time bracelet winner at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and a vegan. The poker hall of famer has used his blog and social media accounts in the past to promote veganism and states that one of the reasons why he has been so successful in the world of poker is because of his vegan diet which keeps him healthy, focused and alert which are key attributes of a successful poker player.

The new PETA campaign is looking to get atleast 10,000 individuals to commit veganism and so far the campaign has already hit seventy five percent of its target. Negreanu commands a strong social media following and his support of the PETA campaign is sure to help PETA achieve its goal of 10,000 pledges to veganism.

In a statement, Negreanu said

My diet’s now as good as it’s ever been, and although my veganism started out absolutely about health, it’s also become about the environment and animal cruelty. The way animals are treated and the conditions are atrocious. They’re force fed steroids; the chickens are de-beaked. You end up eating sick, diseased chickens because they’re living in shit. It’s like a holocaust on animals.

Most poker players in the past used to live a poker lifestyle that revolved around drinking, partying and eating lots of food, especially non-vegetarian. This resulted in many poker players being overweight, unfit and easily fatigued when asked to play long hours at the table. Negreanu has been instrumental in changing the image of today’s poker player as he turned vegan nearly 9 years ago and embraced a lifestyle that focused on eating healthy, staying fit and being able to concentrate for long periods of time.

Daniel Negreanu will be using his social media presence to leverage his growing fan base to once again promote veganism and PETA’s new campaign.
