The Poker Raj platform only launched in September of this year, but it has already brought a new ambassador into the fold. Reports suggest that the poker room, which caters to the Indian poker market, has managed to bring well-known actress Anita Hassanandani into the fold, in order to help promote the site.
Ms Hassanandani is a popular actress within India, who has made appearances in numerous television series. Additional work from the actress has seen her show up in movies in various languages, including both Tamil and Hindi.
Yet, this is only the first reason why the actress has been brought to the poker site. In her spare time, Ms Hassanandani is also known for participating in poker games. She joined in with the very first season of Match Indian Poker League (MIPL). This was set up and organised by the Poker Raj promoter, Viaan Industries.
Speaking about her new position with the poker site, the actress said that she has always shown her love for poker and that she is very excited about her new partnership with Poker Raj. “Poker is evolving in India”, she went on to say, before claiming that she’s very happy to be a part of the Poker Raj platform’s growth.
The Evolving Indian Poker Scene
Speaking of the addition of Anita to Poker Raj’s ambassadors, the chairman of Viaan Industries said that the actress is both positive and vibrant. “She has been a lucky charm at all our poker events”, he said. He went on to state that she plays poker well herself and that Poker Raj welcomes her as the Brand Ambassador for the site.
That being said, the poker scene in India isn’t in safe water for the time being. There are still certain blockades that it must face if it is to reach the heights of popularity seen elsewhere. Across the entirety of India, not a single region has laws in place that dictate whether poker is considered to be a game of skill or one solely based on chance.
Even though this is the case, there have been several well-known individuals who have stepped forward to try and endorse the game. Some of these include Indian celebrities like Arjun Rampat, Minissha Lamba and Vijender Singh.
It was on September 16 that the Poker Raj website first opened its virtual doors, being founded by Raj Kundra and his wife, actress Shilpa Shetty. Kundra spoke of the site as focusing on all variations of real-money poker that are considered to be games of skill, and it was the Poker Raj platform that launched the country’s very first poker league. The site had been in development for several years before officially being launched. Kundra believes that the platform is able to provide Indian players with “one of the best poker experiences” that they have ever had.
