The World Series of Poker (WSOP) introduced a new event called the Colossus during the 2015 WSOP tournament and had great success as 22,374 players registered for the event which had a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million.
The WSOP is yet to release its schedule of 50 events for the 2016 WSOP which is scheduled to take place once again at the Rio, Las Vegas. However, the WSOP has confirmed that the tournament will feature an even bigger and better Colossus II event that will have a guaranteed prize pool of $7 million. While the 2015 Colossus winner Cord Garcia won a cool $638,880, the 2016 winner will walk away with a million dollars.
The 2016 WSOP event will start from the 31st of May and conclude on the 18th of July and the Colossus II will be the second event of the tournament and the first open event of the 2016 WSOP.
While the event dates are yet to be officially confirmed, it will most likely start on the 2nd of June and finish on the 4th of June. The format will be based on the WSOPE’s Oktoberfest event and gives players the opportunity to cash multiple times at the Colossus as each starting flight will play into the money.
In a statement, Ty Stewart, WSOP Executive Director said
We want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and best wishes for 2016. We hope some of your New Year Resolution’s will include capturing a WSOP gold bracelet in the coming year. We expect another well-rounded schedule offering something for everyone and another record-breaking opening with Colossus II on tap to make a millionaire right out of the gate.
The WSOP which is the most popular tournament on the global poker calendar will release a full event schedule during the early part of 2016 and is expected to feature over 60+ events that will give players the chance to win a prestigious WSOP gold bracelet.
